| Betel set with tray, three containers, and a leaf holder. In the centre, there is a fixed upright handle which enables one to lift it up. The tray is used for displaying the ready made quids. On this tray, there is a container where traces of lime are still apparent. A small pot for red spices, and another container with a lid, probably for the areca nut. The betel leaves are put into the lower recipient. Next to the set, there is a spittoon in yellow brass, an areca nut cutter, and a container for spices. This type of betel set is still used nowadays. It is made of brass, decorated
with volutes which have a design of flowers intermingled with leaves.
The base of the recipient is decorated with concentric incisions. At the
top of the base there is a decorated spherical shape which narrows with
circumlinear incisions. |
