As each part of this betel cutter has been very delicately
elaborated and adjusted onto a steel body with quite an unusual process,
we have decided to describe each part... |

The beak is carved in
copper and is held by two copper clinches. The bronze head is maintained
by three bronze clinches and a central clinch in steel forms the eye and
is decorated with inlaid work. There is a large polished and riveted neck
ring in copper, and then a small ring, the colour of which has been obtained
by using successive layers of a hand-made material cut from the block.
Following, a brass plastron held by three clinches, one of them in steel
is the axis hinge, into which a small metal tongue has been fixed, which
is the spring catch. |

The handle is in white
ivory, decorated with a hand-made colour (the same as that used for the
small neck ring). |

The ends of the handle
are in steel, cut in the shape of wings and covered with a hand-made substance. |

The blade of the cutter
is in steel and is serrated, so that it can hold the areca nut. |
