As each part of this betel cutter has been very delicately elaborated and adjusted onto a steel body with quite an unusual process, we have decided to describe each part...

The beak is carved in copper and is held by two copper clinches. The bronze head is maintained by three bronze clinches and a central clinch in steel forms the eye and is decorated with inlaid work. There is a large polished and riveted neck ring in copper, and then a small ring, the colour of which has been obtained by using successive layers of a hand-made material cut from the block. Following, a brass plastron held by three clinches, one of them in steel is the axis hinge, into which a small metal tongue has been fixed, which is the spring catch.
The wings are carved from horn.

The handle is in white ivory, decorated with a hand-made colour (the same as that used for the small neck ring).
The catch that locks the cutter when the two ends join is in carved steel.

The ends of the handle are in steel, cut in the shape of wings and covered with a hand-made substance.

The blade of the cutter is in steel and is serrated, so that it can hold the areca nut.
The pigeon’s feet which are also the cutter’s base are in bronze and have been melded into the steel body of the cutter (the dilation process has been used, necessitating a very careful adjustment).
